Why this site exists

There are more pizza oven brands than most buyers realise, and the loudest one is not automatically the right one. Ooni has done an extraordinary job of becoming the default answer — so much so that a great many people searching for a pizza oven never seriously consider Blackstone, Ninja, Solo Stove or the countertop electrics, even when one of those suits them better.

That is not Ooni’s fault. It is what happens when one company markets well and the content around a category gets written either by that company or by people summarising it. Outdoor Pizza Oven Guide exists to compare what is actually on the shelf, including the brands that do not advertise.

🔴 What we do not claim

We do not cook on these ovens, and we never say we do. Nobody here has run a season of Friday nights on a Karu and a Roccbox side by side, and if we wrote that we had, you would have no way of checking it — which is exactly why so many sites write it.

There is no invented expert here. We have not created a fictional pizzaiolo with a decade in a Neapolitan kitchen, given them a stock photo, and signed reviews in their name.

We also do not publish taste notes we did not taste. A page describing “a noticeably better leopard-spotted cornicione” is either reporting real pizzas or inventing them, and you cannot tell which from the page. We stay on the side of that line we can defend.

What we actually do

1. We read the whole review corpus, not the top three reviews. The ovens we cover carry thousands of Amazon reviews between them. Individual reviews are noise; patterns across thousands are not. When the same complaint recurs across years and product revisions, that is a property of the oven, and we say so.

2. We compare specifications that are actually published, and we say when a number is missing rather than estimating it. Fuel type, internal width, whether a stone is included, whether the door is sold separately — these are checkable facts, they differ between models people confuse constantly, and they decide whether you are happy in month six.

3. We cover the brands that do not market to us. A comparison written by a brand can only ever conclude one thing. That is the single most useful thing an independent site can do here, so it is what this one does.

How we make money, and what it changes

This site earns commission when you buy through our links to Amazon. That is set out in full on the affiliate disclosure, including the part most disclosures leave out: the incentive it creates, and what we do about it.

The short version is that commission is a percentage, so we earn more when you buy an expensive oven. We think the honest response is to be explicit when the cheaper option is the right one — and to say plainly when the answer is that the oven you already own is fine.

Corrections

Prices change, models are discontinued and specifications get revised. If something here is wrong, we want to fix it rather than defend it. Tell us at contact and we will correct the page and say that we did.
